Okuma will display its Multus U series of general-purpose, multitasking CNC lathes designed to reduce setup time, improve accuracy and minimize non-cutting time. The series includes two machine sizes. The U3000 has a maximum diameter of 25.6" and a bed length of 39.4", while the U4000 has a 27.55" maximum diameter and a 59.05" bed length. A rigid traveling column enables powerful cutting along the entire Y axis for flexible machining from all directions, the company says. Further supporting flexibility, the series offers 17 configuration variations with multiple bed lengths, optional W subspindle and lower turret.
The lathe series is suitable for process-intensive work with difficult-to-machine materials typical of the aerospace, automotive, oil/energy, medical and construction industries. Designed for ease of operation, the machines feature tool loading from the machine front, improved spindle access for faster setups and smooth chip discharge. Heavy-duty construction provides a sturdy platform for long-term rigidity and accuracy.
The lathes are equipped with the company's Intelligent Technologies for increased efficiency. The Thermo-Friendly Concept provides long, stable machining accuracy with structural design and thermal deformation control capabilities. The Thinc-OSP-P300S control equipped with the Collision Avoidance System is said to reduce keyboard operations by half and maximize uptime. The optional Machining Navi system is said to improve tool performance by choosing the optimal speed to avoid chatter.
