Gilman Precision (Grafton, Wisconsin) has joined with GPS Education Partners to help educate and train high school students seeking technical skills for a manufacturing career through the GPS school program. Offered to juniors and seniors enrolled in participating school districts throughout Wisconsin, the GPS program enables students to gain industry credentials, skills and transferable post-secondary college credits while earning a high school diploma at their home school. Participants engage in two hours of classroom learning each day, followed by work at internship locations. As a business partner, Gilman is a possible placement location for student interns.

 “The growing skills gap is a threat to the manufacturing industry,” says Mike Weiland, Gilman COO. “Jobs will go unfilled at a time when more jobs are being created; there will no doubt be a shortage. This is precisely why these types of programs are crucial for the industry, and Gilman jumped at the chance to be a part of it. Not only does this program help prepare students with the essential skills and knowledge needed, but it gives them options, offers a plan and gives them the confidence to succeed in the future.
