Alzmetall introduces the GS1200/5T, a five-axis simultaneous machining center equipped with three direct drive torque motors in the A- and C-axis. The gantry design concept is tailored for high-speed cutting, hard milling, dry milling, highly dynamic characteristics and extreme stiffness. The travel carriage system is a box-in-box system with a Z-axis monobloc. This box-in-box-style gantry system can enable tools to be on center point at all times in the machining work envelope.
The thermal consistency at the tool center point (TCP) at X-Y level can be accomplished without any thermal compensation needed, according to the company. Built with four linear guide rails and dual axis ball screws in X-, Y- and Z-axis, it is said to provide the stiffness and rigidity necessary in machining harder alloys. Other options for this machine can enable hybrid machining in all applications for milling, drilling, turning and grinding in a single clamping. The ergonomic design of the GS-Series can also enable simple access for the operator at the table for loading or unloading parts through the door or with an overhead crane.
The benefits of this design are said to include a reduction in cutting tool costs, contour consistency at highest path velocity, high paralled-path-precision through two servo-drives at each X-, Y- and Z-axis and reduced cost of ownership of the lifetime of the machining center.
