SolidCAM 2013 SP2 offers enhancements across all modules, including 2.5D milling, iMachining 2D and 3D, and others, as well as a new “solid probe” module. SolidCAM’s 2.5D milling module features additional toolbox operations and enhanced threading and engraving functions. The HSS complementary module for surface machining has also been upgraded with extra auto-detection for radial and spiral technologies and lead-in ramping options. The 3D milling solution has added hybrid machining and faster multi-core calculation.
The simultaneous five-axis module features new tilting options and improvements to the SWARF, 5x drill and “convert HSM to Sim 5x” operations. Three operations have been added to the Sim 5x module: the “multi-blade” operation for handling impellers and bladed disks; the “port” machining operation for machining ports with lollipop machining tools; and the “contour” five-axis machining strategy for deburring and trimming.
The iMachining 2D module features a “technology wizard” for improved cycle times and longer tool life. The iMachining 3D module features a knowledge-based “technology wizard,” step-down, intelligent step-up, localized machining and smart positioning to automatically produce a complete, ready-to-run CNC program with optimal cutting conditions for 3D workpieces. Prismatic parts can be milled in one operation from the solid model of the part and stock, without the need to define geometry chains. The iMachining 3D tool path is automatically adjusted to avoid collisions between the holder and the updated stock at every stage.
A “solid probe” module enables users to define the home position and perform measurement cycles during machining. It supports tool presetters and tool breakage detection. Machining operations and probe operations are intermixed in the CAM manger, using the same geometry.
