Marposs Corp.’s Brankamp CMS-02 standalone system for collision monitoring and crash damage mitigation uses a ceramic strain sensor to detect irregularities in the production process. It measures elastic deformation in the range of 0.1 micron, and both slows and dynamically increases forces with damage potential. It reacts within 1 millisec., sending a stop signal to E-Stop to alleviate or eliminate expensive, time-consuming machine crashes.
The system is a single-channel unit with a 16-bit resolution and a 25-kHz sampling rate. It provides three operation modes with three limits per mode (warning, soft stop and hard stop outputs limits), stop-event data recording and a signal values log file. An Ethernet cable to a Windows-based industrial PC unit or an IPC4-dedicated monitor provides data visualization, analysis and statistics, as well as the human-machine interface (HMI).
The system is designed to be easy to install and it can be retrofitted to existing machines. It supports several communication paths including discrete I/Os, Profibus-DP and Profinet. Operators of all skill levels can benefit without having to attend training courses.
Additionally, the system can be expanded to work in conjunction with the Genior Modular monitoring solution for simultaneous collision detection and process monitoring for visualizing the processes in parallel.
