Available from Methods Machine Tools, the FANUC RoboCut α-CiA series C400iA and C600iA wire EDMs are capable of machining complex, detailed graphite electrodes ranging to 6" thick with a fine finish. Upgrades have been made to the RoboCut Link i cut monitor software for monitoring and operating the machine remotely, and an interface is now available for Apple iPads and other remote smart devices. Seven-axis simultaneous machining is available as an option. The series is suitable for machining a range of materials including cobalt-chrome, high-nickel alloys and titanium used in aerospace, medical and military applications.
Three models are offered. The C400iA 10" model offers X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measuring 14.6" × 10.6" × 10.2", and U- and V-axis travels measuring ±2.362". The C600iA 12" model offers X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measuring 23.6" × 15.7" × 12.2", and U- and V-axis travels measuring ±3.937". The C600iA 16" model offers X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measuring 23.6" × 15.7" × 16.2", and U- and V-axis travels measuring ±3.937".
The EDM series features control enhancements for monitoring electrical component usage, said to reduce operational costs by minimizing power consumption. A new “eco mode” reduces wire consumption by as much as 30 percent, Methods says. The FANUC 31iWB control with 15.1" LCD touchscreen offers improved accuracy and finish, especially in high-taper four-axis cutting. The Ai Pulse Control II provides improved straightness and faster cutting speeds for both roughing and finishing in interrupted cuts, while the FANUC auto-threader offers enhanced reliability, even when threading soft wire while submerged and in the cutting gap. The PCD power supply has been upgraded for more efficient burning in difficult-to-cut materials such as CBN and some carbon fibers.
