A forging can be used as a stock model to reduce both programming and machine time when roughing parts. The system can automatically identify and machine virtually all planar surfaces, which are perpendicular to the current tool axis, thereby ensuring no excess material remains at any level, the company says. The software can select an unlimited number of avoidance surfaces to block off areas for machining later or to avoid workpiece fixturing.
Large, complex models load quicker than they did in the previous software versions, and material removal, machine simulation and toolpath animation is faster.
Libraries extend the system鈥檚 manufacturing capabilities to address specific applications such as aerospace and turbo-machinery components. The aerospace application library features improved approach and transition motion for machining flange top features, thus reducing machining time. A high speed 鈥渒ellering鈥 option finishes contoured walls. The turbo-machinery application library features an automated, high speed roughing strategy for impellers and blisks. Also, hub-finishing options are said to reduce cycle times.
The PostWorks universal postprocessor has also been enhanced to include an advanced 鈥渓ook ahead鈥 option for AC-style rotary machines that intelligently positions the machine鈥檚 axes to avoid over travel.
