Makino’s T2 five-axis HMC with Advantige technology is designed for mid-sized titanium aerospace part production. Its purpose-built design is said to provide the rigidity, dynamic stiffness, vibration damping and agility necessary for more productive titanium machining and longer tool life.
 
The machining center is designed to reduce the hazardous vibration and thermal conditions traditionally associated with titanium machining. With X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measuring 2,000, 2,000 and 1,800 mm, respectively, the machine can accommodate part sizes measuring 1,900 × 2,000 mm and weighing 5,000 kg. The machine’s construction features large way surfaces and table casting for extra rigidity and vibration damping, as well as a 120-position ATC for continuous, uninterrupted machining. Users can opt for an ATC with as many as 190 total positions
 
The HSK-A125 4,000-rpm spindle delivers high clamping forces and horsepower (133 hp continuous, 200 hp peak). Its compact design combines the latest induction motor with twin-inverter-drive technology for higher torque (1,100 foot-pounds continuous, 200 foot-pounds peak). The spindle is supported by roller bearings to ensure rigidity and reduce energy loss. A and C axes increase part accessibility with ±110-degree, A-axis rotation and 360-degree, continuous C-axis rotation.
 

For continuous operation, the machine includes an automatic pallet changer system (60 sec. change times) to eliminate downtime for part change-overs. The machine can also be integrated with an automatic pallet transfer and storage system in a flexible Makino Machining Complex (MMC) automation system for extended periods of unattended operation. This system assigns work and initiates operations automatically, maximizing spindle utilization for increased productivity.
