The Studer S33 from United Grinding is designed for grinding medium-sized workpieces in individual and batch production for toolmaking and precision engineering applications. Intended for job shop operations, the machine is based on two previous machines: the S30leanPro universal cylindrical grinding machine and the eco650 external grinding machine.
The machine features a fixed wheelhead adjustable to 0 or 30 degrees for external grinding, or a turret wheelhead for external and internal grinding with a Hirth manual swivel of 2.5 degrees or automatic swivel of 1 degree. A rotating grinding head enables external and internal cylindrical grinding for machining workpieces in a single clamping. The machine features a grinding wheel with a 500-mm diameter. A second grinding wheel and high-frequency internal grinding spindle are available as options. A C axis for the workhead enables thread grinding, while the swiveling machine table enables grinding cones. The distance between centers is 650 or 1,000 mm.
The full enclosure design features two sliding doors on a Granitan machine bed. A StuderWin graphical operator interface includes a 15" touchscreen for CNC control through an integrated PC. The machine is equipped with Studer’s smartLoad part automation device for large batch production. Integrated smartLoad programming and in-process gaging are available as options.
