The Akari Seiki HS-450i HMC is equipped with a Fanuc 31i Nano control, two 400-mm pallets, an 80-station ATC and 285-psi TSC. With X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 25.2" × 24" × 26.8", respectively, the 26,000-lb machine can accommodate workpieces as large as 29.5" × 39.4". Each has a pallet load capacity of 1,100 lbs. Other features include a 15,000-rpm, 30-hp Big-Plus spindle; a Tsudakoma full fourth-axis rotary table; high precision THK roller ways with axial rapids of 2,362 ipm and axis acceleration and deceleration rates of more than 1G; and a 0.9-sec. toolchanger. Additionally, the HMC is capable of running both 400- and 500-mm pallets simultaneously.
The thermal control system (TCS) utilizes a temperature probe mounted in the base casting, and a chiller unit that supplies the spindle cartridge, axes bearing and servo motor mounts with a constant flow of temperature-controlled oil. Also incorporated in the TCS is an air/oil mist lubrication system that delivers precise, pressurized lubrication to the ballscrews, roller guideways and spindle bearings, maintaining cutting accuracies of 0.0001" and repeatability of 0.00008".
Flexibility by expandability enables users to select a suitable automatic pallet changer as well as an ATC, the company says. The user can start with a two-pallet, 80-tool machine and expand it to a six-pallet machine with a variety of tool storage capacities (120 and 220 tools as options) to enable long-term unmanned operation or high-efficiency multi-part, small-lot production runs.
