Delcam will launch its Vortex strategy for high speed area clearance, an enhancement to the company’s 2014 PowerMill CAM system for high speed and five-axis machining. Designed for use with solid carbide tooling, the strategy is suitable for two- and three-axis roughing, 3+2-axis area clearance, and rest machining based on stock models or reference toolpaths.
Vortex is fully integrated with PowerMill’s step-cutting strategy for area clearance. The strategy automatically generates extra toolpaths to remove additional material for minimal terracing. According to the company, toolpaths are calculated for more efficient machining and minimized air moves with a controlled engagement angle for the complete operation. The strategy is said to decrease cycle times, lengthen tool life and prevent chipping of the flutes.
