Featuring a 50-taper spindle, OKK’s HM500S/50 HMC is designed for heavy-duty cutting of small parts as well as hard-to-cut materials, such as titanium. Its 500-mm (19.68") table increases boring capacity to 250 mm (9.84") in diameter.
 
For enhanced precision, the machining center employs high-load roller guides and double-anchored ballscrews on all three axes (X, Y, Z). Circulation of cooling oil around the ballscrews, ballscrew support housings and motor-mounting surfaces prevents thermal displacement. A single, steel-angle side shutter protects the Z-axis slideway for reliability. The machine keeps swarf away from the shutter section and distributes it to troughs on either side of the bed to prevent damage.
 
Other features include spindle speeds ranging from 35 to 12,000 rpm; X-, Y- and Z-axis travel measuring 630 × 620 × 710 mm (24.80" × 24.41" × 27.95"), respectively ; a rapid-traverse rate of 54m/min (2,126"); and a 40/34-hp spindle motor.
 
The HMC is ideal for construction and automotive applications, including cast iron gearboxes and diesel engine coolant pump housings, the company says. It accepts a range of cutting tools, making it suitable for a variety of  applications.
