The NBH 5+ Speed HMC is designed as a manufacturing solution for large aluminum parts or tombstones in automotive, electronic and general industrial applications, combining a generous work envelope with a 15,000-rpm motorized spindle, 295-ft/min (90 m/min) linear feeds and an 80-rpm B axis. The machine's 19.7" (500-mm) pallet clamping area handles part weights as heavy as 1,763 lbs (800 kg), while 1G ACC/DEC linear moves, a high speed B axis and three-second chip-to-chip tool changes ensure high in-cut times and low cost per part, the company says. With a compact footprint of 17.2 × 17.4 × 9.8 ft (5.25 × 5.3 × 3 m) the HMC provides a work envelope of 31.5" in diameter × 39.3" in height (800 mm in diameter × 1,000 mm in height).
The HMC features a one-piece cast-iron bed, which is heavily ribbed for rigidity and vibration damping. Equipped for HSK63A toolholders, the spindle delivers 35-kW (47-hp) power and 88.5 foot-pounds (120 Nm) of torque in continuous duty. X-, Y- and Z-travels are 35" × 31.5" × 35.4" (890 × 800 × 900 mm), respectively, on pre-tensioned linear guides with integrated scales. Linear positioning accuracy is 0.0003" (0.007 mm), and rotary positioning accuracy is 0.0028 degrees (DIN ISO 230-2). According to the company, the HMC's Siemens 840D control provides processing power for look-ahead to maintain top speeds in curves and contours; and through-spindle coolant at 40 bar, a 134-tool magazine and an integrated spiral chip conveyor provide flexible processing capability and high-volume metal-removal capacity.
