The HBMX55i horizontal boring mill from Hurco offers a work envelope measuring 55.1" × 55.7" × 43.3" and a W-axis stroke measuring 19". Rapid traverse rates are 394 ipm (10 m/min.) in the X, Y and Z axes. The machine’s spindle provides speeds ranging to 2,500 rpm and torque ranging to 1,106 foot-pounds (1,500 Nm). The boring mill’s 44" × 49"- (1,120 × 1,250-mm-) work table accommodates as much as 8,819 lbs (4,000 kg).
The machine is equipped with a geared-head spindle offering two speeds, as well as hardened boxways, a contouring fourth-axis rotary table and a 60-station automatic toolchanger. A 4.33"-diameter quill enables the use of shorter tools. Linear glass scales on the X, Y and Z axes are said to maintain thermal stability and increase accuracy. The machine also is equipped with an integrated control that supports both ISO/EIA NC and conversational programming, as well as Hurco’s UltiMotion motion system. The dual-screen control enables faster, easier programming, the company says.
