Walter USA has added four cutting tool insert geometries to its Tiger-tec Silver for turning family. The insert geometries include the RP5 for roughing, MP5 for medium machining, MP3 for low-carbon steels and the FP5 for finishing.
The RP5 is capable of roughing with a high depth of cut and feed rate. Its positive three-degree chamfer reduces power requirements, and a deep and wide chipbreaker groove maintains low cutting temperature to reduce wear, the company says. A wider chamfer in the center region of the main cutting edge prevents chipping when machining as-cast or as-forged components.
The MP5 geometry is designed for general steel machining and features a three-center curve cutting edge and reinforced chip-breaker blades. The MP3 geometry is intended for medium machining on long chip-forming steels such as low-carbon and forging steels. Spherical surface features in the chip breaker give the chips greater rigidity for better chip breaking. The FP5 for finishing operations and light cuts features a double-V chip breaker for turning operations from 0.008" depth of cut.
