ANCA Motion’s LinX linear motor technology is designed to provide manufacturers the toolmaking capability to produce highly polished flutes and gash surfaces to improve chip evacuation and aid tool performance. The smoother surface enables chips to exit more freely, preventing chip packing and material buildup, for example, when machining softer or ductile materials.
According to the company, a highly rigid machine with a cylindrical linear motor, such as the company’s MX7 grinder, assures smooth axis movement, improving the final surface finish on the tool.
The motor ensures no loss of preload or rigidity when grinding tools, and ANCA’s control algorithm eliminates reversal errors and maintains accuracy, according to the company. The company claims that this technology enables grinding to an average surface finish roughness as low as 164.7 nm (0.16 Ra).
