FlexArm’s mobile tapping package enables operators to tap holes off-line while the machining center works on the next part. The package includes a GH-18-1 tapping arm with a tap capacity of #6 to 0.625", reaching from 17" to 72", offering variable speed from 100 to 420 rpm, 360-degree movement and a semi-automatic tap lubricator. With a caster cart, power pack, tap stand and five tap holders, the hydraulic tool can be used wherever 110 V is available, no air needed. It can speed setup times and reduce tap breakage, according to the company.
The tapping arm is designed to increase efficiency. It enables machining centers to do what they do best: milling, drilling and boring. When operators load a machining center and start its cycle, they can use that cycle time to tap previously machined parts, increasing productivity. Its purpose-centered approach is said to reduce tap breakage rates. It has a tap breakage rate of 1 per 3,000 holes, compared to 1 per 300 holes on a CNC, according to the company.
The company also offers hydraulic and pneumatic versions of its FlexArm to suit a range of tapping requirements.
