Constructed of MT8 carbide with Carmex’s Blu coating, the FMT thread mill is designed to deliver accurate thread geometry and surface quality in shorter cycle times. Unlike conventional taps, the thread mill can thread down to the bottom of a blind hole while delivering the reliability necessary for complex parts. An increased number of flutes, which require a heavy-duty carbide grade and coating technology to ensure high performance and long tool life, provide high-speed performance.
In a recent test, the company says an FMT thread mill with a six-fluted cutter and internal coolant created a 10-mm internal right-hand thread to the bottom of a blind hole in SAE 4340 steel. The cycle time was 1.5 sec. and the tool lasted for 2,170 threads.
