Schunk reports that its Rota THW3 chuck allows for faster throughput, flexibility and accuracy. According to Schunk, the technologies in the THW3 result in high process reliability, constant clamping forces and long maintenance intervals. It is available in sizes ranging from 200-630 mm, and its newly designed and engineered technologies include ShieldLok, VersaFlex and a quickfinder for chuck jaws.
ShieldLok is a patented locking mechanism that reportedly results in lower lubricant consumption, reducing grease and chuck maintenance costs and eliminating coolant contamination. The THW3 also has a lower profile for less tool interference. Material has been removed from the chuck, which results in a lightened load without impeding integrity. Schunk says that, due to the lighter weight of the THW3, quicker acceleration and deceleration speeds equate to faster cycle times.
The machine also includes a double-guided piston that holds a higher tolerance, designed to improve repeat accuracy for jaw or part changes. Additionally, the chuck includes VersaFlex quick jaw change technology, which reportedly provides the ability to change chuck jaws in minutes with no re-boring of the chuck jaws.
Schunk also created a search tool for finding matching chuck jaws for the THW3 with the jaw quickfinder. It provides users with information on the chuck manufacturer, chuck type, chuck size and product details, giving them a list of all matching chuck jaws from over 1,200 jaw types.
