Optical Gaging Products, a division of Quality Vision International, presents its 3D CAD-based multi-sensor metrology software, Zone3 Version 4. The software features finders and video tools including Auto-Adjust Light Finder to adjust a light source to an intensity goal, Blob Tool Finder to locate irregular geometries and report their area/centroid location in single or multiple fields-of-view(s), and Area Multi-Focus Finder that uses optical focus to create an array of 3D data points for constructions or feature definitions. Also included is an advanced Edge Detection Finder and an Acquire Image tool that allows a video image to be acquired and saved for later use in visualization, documentation or as a measuring tool.

The Replace CAD tool is designed to easily update a CAD file in an existing part routine when the part design changes. The software is said to automatically eliminate steps in the routine associated with features that no longer exist in the new CAD file and highlights new features.

Task-based programming enables subsets of a master measurement routine (task list) to be run in lieu of the full routine. The software identifies all steps required to measure the selected dimensions, including alignment- and construction-related features. According to the company, this is ideal for First Article, FDA or parametric program environments.

The software includes Use Current Alignment to ensure a current datum alignment that is applied to a geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) step rather than specifying each datum individually, and Alignment Indexer where alignments used in a repeat loop are sequenced and numbered to optimize runtime and associate each measurement with its coordinate system alignment.
