SMW Autoblok’s Centco4 2+2 self-centering and compensating chuck can clamp round, cubic, angular, irregular and other geometric workpieces. Said to be ideal for deformation-sensitive workpieces, the Centco4 is available in both powered and manual models. The four-jawed chuck reduces deformation fourfold compared to three-jaw clamping and can be used on all industry-specific machine tools, the company says. The ability to handle virtually any part shape means fewer chuck change-outs and reduced downtime. Manual and hydraulic applications include turning, milling, inspection and finishing operations.
The Centco4 features two independent self-centering and compensating jaws as well as single-wedge actuation that eliminates the need for a dual-piston cylinder.
The chuck’s drive moves on two parallel axes and needs only one standard-stroke, single-piston cylinder for actuation. This allows for independent, self-centering clamping via both axes, the company says. Centrifugal force compensation allows for high rotational speeds with up to 210 kN of gripping force. A variety of Synchron high-precision jaws are offered with a 1/16th × 90-degree interface.
