PartMaker, a division of Delcam, offers Partmaker version 2010 software for programming CNC mills, lathes, wire EDMs, turn-mill centers and Swiss-type lathes. The software features an optional module designed to perform simultaneous five-axis swarf milling on multi-axis lathes. Swarf machining enables side cutting with an end mill while proceeding along the surface of a part. This technique can be used for profiling the edge of components with the side of the tool in order to remove material. Compared to traditional thee-axis milling strategies, five-axis simultaneous swarf machining can reduce machining time and improve surface finish, the company says. Swarfing techniques also enable parts to be machined complete in a single setup through advanced deburring techniques.Additionally, the software’s improved chamfering ability allows users to automatically chamfer, or round, virtually any edge with a single mouse click. Other highlights include an improved facility for automating the programming and simulation of thread whirling; enhanced grooving functionality; powerful and flexible threading capability; improved solids-based programming; and additional CAD functionality.
