Designed for use with various hollow-wrist robots, the QC-21HM toolchanger from ATI Industrial Automation is a QC-21 Master that enables routing air and electrical lines directly through its center. Internally routing all cables and hoses shields the dress package from mechanical influences, prevents whiplash and provides a cleaner, more direct connection, the company says. Also, routing gripper cables through the hollow wrist is said to improve access to tight spaces and to reduce complications associated with broken hoses and cables. The toolchanger is directly compatible with standard QC-21 tool assemblies. Lock and unlock sensing is integrated into its design for safe coupling and uncoupling.
The robotic toolchanger can automatically change end-effectors and other peripheral tooling with accuracy and ease, the company says. It is designed to function reliably for millions of cycles at rated loads while maintaining high repeatability.
A variety of models are available to cover a range of applications from small to heavy payloads. The toolchanger accommodates 55-lb payloads, and with a lower moment rating, heavier loads are possible.
Additional features include a fail-safe locking mechanism to ensure high moment capacity and strength; a lock/unlock air supply; a lock/unlock sensing method (lock and unlock connections are 1/8" push-connect tube fittings); and eight pass-through air connections (two are 1/4" push-connect tube fittings and six are 1/8" push-connect tube fittings). Options include metric tube size connections and electrical module cables that can be routed through the center.
