Rego-Fix’s PowrGrip toolholding collet system can generate clamping forces higher than those of shrink-fit holders. The system can help aerospace, firearms and defense manufacturers overcome the challenges of difficult-to-machine materials, aggressive metal removal requirements and machining situations involving long, awkward tool overhangs.
The system’s holder, collet and press-fit assembly mounting unit generate clamping force, high-vibration damping and precision. The mechanical properties of the holder material generate gripping force with tool runout below 0.0001". Interchangeable collets are available from 0.125" to 1", including metric sizes, capable of holding carbide and high strength steel tools.
According to the company, users can press in a tool or remove it from the holder in less than 10 seconds. Because it does not use heat, tools can be used immediately after a tool change.
The company offers ancillary technologies, accessories and specific sizes for the aerospace and firearms industries. For aerospace applications, larger PG 32 collets are suited for Inconel and titanium components. The company’s SecurGrip technology, which combines PowrGrip’s gripping strength with a locking key system, provides added security for applications such as heavy-duty material removal, as well as expensive castings or complex parts. PowrGrip Xtended Length toolholders enable operators to tackle applications with longer reach or clearance challenges.
PowrGrip can be paired with ER collets offered in two levels of precision, providing the lowest possible total indicator reading of less than 0.0002" (5 microns) over the entire clamping range to achieve exact tolerances and surface finishes. For turning machines, floating chucks compensate for axis errors between the chuck and the bore when reaming and tapping. The tool’s self-centering feature ensures precise positioning of reaming or tapping tools.
