The CoroCut XS line has been developed for producing precision-turned components with diameters as small as 1 mm. Useful for components such as bone screws and hip and knee joints, the new tool can be implemented to enhance productivity in high-volume production, says maker Sandvik Coromant.

Precision-ground to contain sharp edges, the XS insert promotes tight tolerances in external machining operations, such as grooving, threading, parting and turning. The product has a grooving width of 0.5 mm, and a parting width of 0.7 mm.

All inserts are compatible with the same toolholder for all operations. In addition, the design allows the insert screw to be reached from either side of the toolholder, therefore affording access when indexing the insert.
