Sumitomo Electric Carbide Inc. offers the AC4010K and AC4015K series of turning grades for cast iron. Consisting of a smooth cutting edge treatment, the AC4000K series uses high-adhesion technology to improve peeling resistance. In addition, crystal orientation control technology and a hardened TiCN coating layer increase wear resistance.
Recommended for gray cast iron, the AC4010K grade’s thick coating is said to enable cutting velocities as high as 2,300 surface feet per minute (sfm). It also features a surface treatment designed to improve compressive stress and chipping resistance.
Designed for high adhesion and high strength, he AC4015K grade is recommended for general purpose cutting of ductile cast iron. It enables velocities as high as 1,500 sfm in ductile or nodular iron.
The AC4010K grade’s application range includes cast iron brake discs, flywheels, differential cases, gear cases, cam shafts and standard gear parts. Chipbreaker selection includes the EGU for low rigidity setups, the ENZ for general finishing, the EGZ for extra cutting edge strength, and the EME for both heavy machining and strong, sharp high-feed roughing. The company also offers various “flat top” geometries that lack chipbreakers.Related Content
