Mitutoyo’s USB input device is designed to streamline the interfacing of Digimatic hand measurement tools with PCs. USB Input Tool Direct: USB-ITN includes seven models, each of which is dedicated to a specific type of cable plug/connector pin configuration.
 
When connected to a PC’s USB port, the input tool is automatically recognized as a Human Interface Device (HID) keyboard device, which is a standard Windows driver. No special software is required. A USB keyboard signal converter translates Digimatic display values to keyboard signals. This enables direct data input into cells of off-the-shelf spreadsheet software, such as Excel as well as Notepad or similar programs. Data capture is much faster than manual entry, the company says.
 
Direct input increases data reliability by eliminating transcription errors, the company says. Optional USB-ITPAK measurement data collection software further enhances the productivity of the input tool by facilitating setup. Users can specify Excel input destinations (workbook, sheet or cell), cell-fill direction (right or down), cell fill intervals and other settings. Available measurement methods include sequential, batch and individual. The measurement data collection software also enables mouse button, function key and foot-switch functions.
 

Hand tools supported by the USB input tool include calipers, micrometers, indicators, depth gages, height gages, bore gages, surface roughness testers, laser scan micrometers, linear gage/counters and hardness-testing machines.
