Chiron’s 24 series of vertical machining centers offers spindle clearance ranging to 600 mm and a drum workpiece-changing system to accommodate larger components. The work area measures 830 × 630 × 630 mm. The machining centers are available with either one or two spindles with a clearance of 400 or 600 mm, and with fixed or workpiece-changing tables. Spindle drives provide torque ranging to 300 Nm. According to the company, rotary axes are based on crash-safe and backlash-free cycloid and torque drive technology with direct angle-measuring systems for accurate multi-sided machining.
Chip-to-chip times are said to be as fast as 2.9 sec. Machines with the HSK-A63 tool taper are capable of handling tools as long as 370 mm and weighing as much as 8 kg. The machine can be equipped with Chiron’s ToolTowers, featuring up to 210 stations for quick-change during machining. A large door opening and barrier-free access to the work area ease loading and unloading. The chip conveyor can be mounted behind or on the side of the machine.
