Fives Giddings and Lewis present the V series of vertical turning centers including the V 800 model. The turning centers, with six table sizes ranging from 800 to 2,500 mm, are designed as a multi-purpose lathes for applications including pumps, valves, gears, bearings, compressors, wheel hubs and jet engine housings.
The V series is designed with a cast iron base construction and offers an optional live spindle attachments and a C-axis table. All V series machines incorporate a hydrostatic ram to maximize rigidity for heavy, chatter-free cutting and improved part finish. According to the company, the hydrostatic wear-free guides require reduced maintenance. The adjustable cross rail is a programmable positioning axis said to handle a range of parts and minimize ram extension. Dual-scale feedback enables precision and ensures parallelism while hydraulic cylinder elevation adds secure 1000 kN (225,000 lbs.) of mechanical clamping force per side.
The company’s V-Lock tooling system provides an interface for modular tooling adapters, long cutting tools and an optional right angle milling attachment. According to the company, modular turning tools more than double the taper stiffness at loads up to 1,800 Nm. Through-the-tool coolant and eight-bar (116-psi) flood coolant are provided, in addition to a 12-position tool storage disk. Options include 70-bar (1,015-psi) high-pressure coolant and an 18-tool storage disk. Other options include tool and part probes to increase utilization and ensure part quality, and enclosures ranging from standard to fully enclosed.
