The 5555 JetMachining center from Omax is a cantilever-style abrasive waterjet designed for facilities with limited floor space. The waterjet can cut complex parts as large as 1.2 × 1.2 m from a variety of materials and thicknesses, including advanced composites, exotic alloys, traditional metals and rubber.
The waterjet is equipped with the company’s Intelli-Max software suite for Windows, which is designed to calculate the velocity of a tool path at over 2,000 points per inch. The program supports as many as six axes of coordinated motion for processing 3D components. A Tilt-A-Jet cutting head accessory provides advanced automated taper removal. According to the company, the cutting head achieves virtually zero taper without reducing cutting speed. It precisely cuts high-tolerance parts with square, taper-free edges, including interlocking pieces and dovetail fittings, the company says. Through the control software, the head automatically calculates and adjusts the angle of the nozzle to accurately remove the natural taper from the finished part by transferring it to the scrap part of the material.
