Hyundai Wia produces a large number of machine tools designed specifically for manufacturing automotive components in high volume. Decades of experience building such machines is the basis for the company’s expertise in stand-alone machine designs.

Although it is still in the prototype stage, the LV200MF is currently the largest machine tool in Hyundai Wia’s line-up. This ram-type vertical turning center has a 63-inch (2m) swing. Gas turbine components and large workpieces for the energy sector are applications expected for a machine of this size.

A three-machine cell with robotic part handling represents the high level of automation the company offers to its automotive and general machining customers. The robot is a model designed and manufactured by Hyundai Wia. It is not yet available for export.

Software developments are emerging as a significant complement to Hyundai Wia’s machine tool products. The company’s new machine monitoring system collects machine data for analysis and display. Results can be accessed on a variety of mobile devices.

The HiMold 750/5A is a high speed, five-axis VMC. It features a Y axis with 765mm of travel, a 25kW spindle drive and 24,000 rpm top spindle speed.

This mold cavity of a fanciful face mask demonstrates the capability of the F550M, a VMC with features tailored to mold machining. Like other current machine designs, this model reflects the use of finite element analysis to increase rigidity and minimize both heat growth and vibration in the main castings.

The L800LMA lathe, shown here in the final stages of assembly, is the largest of its type from Hyundai Wia. It has added milling capability and is targeted to overseas customers such as U.S. oilfield shops.

To ramp up production of large, general purpose machine tools, Hyundai Wia has recently installed several gantry-style milling machines (left) and large grinders at the Changwon complex.
